Good-looking dogs attract smiles, stares, and lots of attention from strangers. And so do people with good-looking dogs—so break out the brushes and start pampering your pooch!

To complete this How-To you will need:

A dog in need of grooming
A bristle, slicker, and/or rubber dog brush
A dog comb
Dog treats
A chamois (optional)
Blunt scissors or dog-grooming clippers (optional)

Step 1: Keep dog calm

Although most dogs enjoy being groomed, some find it nerve-wracking. Try to keep your dog calm by allowing her to smell and look at the tools you will be using, talking calmly to her, and avoiding sudden startling movements. And use plenty of treats.

Step 2: Brush & comb

Brush and comb the dog’s hair in the direction that it naturally grows. For smooth, short-haired dogs, you want to use a rubber brush (to shed dirt and dead skin) followed by a bristle brush (to collect dead hair).

Tip: If you have a smooth dog, try “buffing” her with a chamois. It will give her coat a lovely sheen.

Step 3: Tease out tangles

Use a slicker brush to tease out any mats or tangles, then brush the loose hair with a bristle brush.

Tip: If you find that you’re unable to untangle a mat, you can cut it out with blunt scissors or grooming clippers.

Step 4: Brush & give treat

Give your dog a final brushing, a hug, and a treat. Then take her for a walk to show off her spiffy new coat!

This is me about how every single dog groomer i go to seems to be horrible. I have been taking molly in to get shaved since she was a puppy every few months because she just gets way too hot. The first time i took her the lady was psycho and said if she was nice to my dachshunds then they would turn evil so she was mean. She said that dachshunds are a stubborn breed and someone like me probably couldnt handle them. WTF?? The second place cut her up on her stomach and didnt tell me about it (that was sneaky) and the third place had a very dangerous environment for dogs. No proper waiting kennels and a very ghetto scary way of doing things. The haircut they did was goergous except they lack serious listening skills for what i wanted. I just got soooo frustrated after bringing molly home from the groomer today that i decided to rant about it on youtube. My dogs are my kids and i want someone that realizes that and treats them nice but also does a good, safe job. I am running out of groomers in this city there are only 4 or 5 left i can try!! =(
