My passion is animals and I don’t want to work a minimum wage job the rest of my life (who does?)
I REALLY want to get into the Dog Grooming industry but I’m not sure how. Do I need to go to a school or do an unpaid internship or anything?

Most good ones go to the school of hard knocks.
You start out as a bather-brusher and clean dog runs. In time you will learn how to groom a dog properly.

If someone who has experience with raising horses from a yearling, can you make me a list of things I will need for the first 2 years? (Tack/training equipment will later be bought when its time to break them.)

For example,
First Aid kit
Halter
Lead
Grooming kit
etc…

thanks!

Grooming kit (curry comb, dandy brush, soft brush, hoof pick, mane comb etc..)
Not just one halter, two. Trust me, with a yearling they will most likey destroy a few halters
A chain lead and fabric lead.
First aid kit for horses and people.
Winter blanket, rainsheet/cooler, extra blanket.
Boots, leg wraps (for lunging)
lunge line, lungeing caveson or head collar.
lunge whip
training set (type depends on what you want to train the horse for)
feed (depending on what he/she needs)
fly spray/fly mask
salt lick
vet and farrier on speed dial
feed bucket and water bucket (make sure you have an extra of both because you never know what a yearling will do)
jolly ball (either hang it in their stall or leave it in the field)
since you aren’t going to break them right away you probably don’t have to worry about saddle/bridle.
shampoo/conditoner/sponges

i hope i helped! good luck!

Myself and my sister are going to start a Dog Grooming service in a smallish sized town, and I was wondering how much we could make off it. We’re going to take a dog grooming class,so we would be certified,(kinda). Would $50 be too much per dog?
You all gave me good answers,so I put it to a vote. Thanks again!

You sound like you REALLY need that class haha. There’s mroe to it than just "grooming a dog." You need to know the standard clip for each dog, some of which may take you HOURS of work if the coat is in poor condition and the owners let it go.

For $50 somebody with a standard poodle that hasn’t been professionally groomed in six months is getting off REALLY cheap.

For $50 somebody who wants their Schnauzer bathed and his eyebrows trimmed up is paying way too much money.

Also, if you aren’t truly certified, it could be illegal to open a dog grooming business in your state. I know where I live you need to go to an actual school for grooming. Some businesses will train their own employees and pay for them to be certified like PetSmart’s Grooming Academy but in my state, you have to be legally certified in order to groom dogs.

So do some more research, call around to different groomers to figure out the going rate in surrounding areas, figure out state requirements, take that class and then decide what a good price would be.

The groomer I go to for my Maltese/Yorkie mix charges anywhere from around $15 for a simple nail trim to $30 for to trim and shape a coat in good condition to a couple hundred dollars for extensive grooming of poor coats in large dogs.

And just to put this out there, unless you were legally certified, had apprenticed for a while, worked for a grooming company for a few years and THEN branched off on your own… I wouldn’t bring my dog within 50 feet of your business. There are hazards in the grooming business. You need to know which way to point the scissors, what type of blade to use for which breed, etc. It’s not something where you can go take one class and be good to open a business and get rich… or even get well off or be able to support yourself without years of practice.
